Additional Information

Full participants for the Conducting Masterclass will receive a $300 discount and auditors will receive a $200 discount if selected to  play in the orchestra (instrumental resume required.)

The Masterclass will begin each day, Monday- Friday, with two sessions from 9-12, and a 15 minute break at approximately 10:30.  The morning focus will be on score study, baton technique, and Q & A discussion of the practical responsibilities required of achieving and maintaining a conducting position. Guest speakers will give their presentations during the morning sessions.  Composers will meet as a group with David Ludwig during this time starting Wednesday the 17th.

There will be a one hour break for lunch from 12-1.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to podium work with Symphony Tacoma musicians leading the Cascade Conducting Orchestra.  All participants will have equal podium time.  Participants and auditors who have been selected to play in the orchestra will join the Symphony Tacoma musicians for this time except during the session which includes their podium time.  Composers are invited to attend the rehearsal, while Dr. Ludwig meets individually with the full participants.

Friday afternoon, the orchestra will rehearse the pieces for the Composer’s Concert.

On Saturday, there will be a dress rehearsal early in the day, and the final concert will be at 6pm.

Sunday at 2pm will be the Composer’s Public Reading and Concert.
